How to Apply –
Individuals and Families

General Information – please read before applying

As of February 2024, Grant meetings are now bi-monthly.  See home page for details.

  1. This page is for any individuals who are applying for themselves, or on behalf of a family member.
  2. The Gibbons Family Trust can make grants for children and young people up to the age of 25 living in either Devon, or the Isle of Thanet. The application can be for any charitable reason. READ FURTHER ESSENTIAL CRITERIA FOR APPLYING HERE.
  3. The David Gibbons Foundation can make grants to individuals of any age that live in Devon, provided that person is either (or a combination of) physically or mentally unwell, in need of financial help, or older adults. READ FURTHER ESSENTIAL CRITERIA FOR APPLYING HERE.
  4. We ask that you supply evidence to support your reason for applying. For example, confirmation of a place at University, a quote for white goods, etc. We also ask for explanation in the form as to why you or your family are in need of financial assistance in this matter.
  5. If the application is successful we will ask you to acknowledge receipt of the grant by email. Failure to acknowledge grants will impact the success of future applications.
  6. Monitoring of grant spending is required from receipients of larger grants, and welcomed from all beneficiaries. If you haven’t been sent a request to complete a monitoring form and would like one, please email enquiries@gibbonstrusts.org. Failure to complete monitoring forms on request will impact the success of future applications.
  7. The Trusts are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all applicants to share this commitment.

Specific Information for Individuals

REFERENCES ARE REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED WITH EVERY FORM

At least one reference must be uploaded and submitted with the online application form, and the contact details of the referee included on the form. This letter of support needs to be from an independent professional third party. Letters from friends or family are not accepted. The referee may be contacted prior to the Trustees’ meeting.

Examples of suitable references can come from: Sports coach or manager, Local authority officer, religious leader, healthcare /NHS worker, teacher / lecturer, youth worker, social worker, police officer, employer, solicitor.

This reference must be easily recognisable as being from your referee, (we expect to see their headers and footers). The reference also needs to be DATED AND SIGNED within the last 3 months. The reference can be written on paper, scanned and uploaded, or via an email to you which is then saved and uploaded.

If possible it is helpful to the application to include a copy of some personal identification. A copy of a birth certificate, driving licence or passport is requested, but not essential.

Please don’t apply to us for a grant for a purchase / activity / service that has already taken place. We do not make grants for retrospective funding.

If you are submitting multiple attachments to your form be aware that this may take a little time to submit – do not press submit again or refresh your browser, please be patient! You can save your application and revisit it.

Payment of Grants

Grants are paid by BACS, however we do NOT make these payments DIRECTLY to successful applicants.

Payment of grants will be by BACS to an organisation or institution that is happy to receive and administer the payment on your behalf. If more detail is required please email enquiries@gibbonstrusts.org before starting your application.

Original source bank identification for your nominated grant holder MUST be uploaded with the form.  This can be a photo, scan, or a download of something directly from the bank. 

This needs to show CLEARLY the banks name, organisation’s account name, sort code and account number, please make sure it is the correct way up when attached to the form. This must be dated within the last 3 months.

The types of bank identification which we accept are:

  • A copy of a bank statement
  • A cancelled cheque
  • A paying-in slip
  • A letter from the bank, provided it shows all the above required information.
